Preliminary + HSC
there’s simply no comparison.
As the former Academic Director of a major Sydney tuition centre, I’ve spent over a decade guiding nearly a thousand students to success in HSC science.
I know exactly what it takes to ace the HSC and attain the future you want.
Welcome to Dr Vasan Specialist Tuition.
I believe strongly in bringing teaching back to basics: an energetic and interactive classroom with student participation and discussion, in an environment of healthy competition and real academic rigour.
With over ten years of experience, I know how important it is to systematically break down difficult concepts to make them accessible and understandable.
And I am excited to share my hard-won insights into maximising your HSC performance – the same insights that helped me score a 99.95 ATAR, graduate as dux of James Ruse Agricultural High School with two NSW state ranks, and open up my pathway to a Doctor of Medicine.
I look forward to guiding you to academic success.
Dr Nikhil Vasan

We accelerate our Year 10 and Year 12 courses by one term, and our Year 11 course by two terms. We do this in order to ensure a significant period for revision and consolidation before the final HSC exams.
Learning the course before it is introduced at school confers significant advantages for students who are looking to get ahead of their peers. Accelerating not only crucially extends your revision time prior to exams, but it also means that your encounter with the material at school is a form of revision in itself. While others are wrapping their heads around the concepts for the first time, students who have accelerated are already analysing it from different angles and thinking about how to attack the most challenging exam-style questions.
At the same time, accelerating too much can be detrimental. Attempting to learn content that is too advanced before having a grasp of the basics can be dangerous and discouraging. It also increases the likelihood that students will rote-learn the content rather than fostering a true understanding of it, greatly affecting their capacity for thinking critically and adapting to atypical exam questions.
It is in view of these reasons that Dr Vasan’s courses are accelerated one to two terms ahead of school. Our teaching commences early enough that students feel well ahead, and are well ahead, of what they are covering at school, but not so early that they feel out of their depth and foster poor learning habits.
Yes, you can enrol at any point during the term and your tuition fees will be prorated based on the remaining duration of the term. Once you choose to continue enrolment after your two-week trial, we will provide you with the course material for the weeks you have missed free of charge.
The new Foundations course is a three-term accelerated program that will commence for Year 9 students in Term 4, 2024. The course, which will be taught exclusively by Dr Nikhil Vasan, will cover all three core areas of Physics, Chemistry, and Biology, equipping students to excel in their Year 10 work while also providing a significant head start for further studies in Year 11 and Year 12.
Approximately three weeks of each term will be devoted to each of the three core subjects. In each of these three-week blocks, Dr Vasan will cover one Year 11 module while also previewing how the relevant concepts are extended in Year 12. Each term will conclude with an examination.
The Foundations course will enable students to enter their Year 11 studies with the foundations already in place, allowing them to focus on applying the concepts to more challenging questions, understanding their broader scientific context, and exploring the more difficult aspects of the syllabus in greater detail.
